September 4, 2001 Meeting MinutesThe meeting was called to order by President John Garlisch on Tuesday, September 4 at 7:30 p.m. in 428 Mumford Hall. Since it was the first meeting of the new year everyone introduced themselves. Kim Scherer submitted the secretary's report and it was approved. Krista Fleming submitted the Treasurer's report and it was approved. Dues for the year are $10 and should be given to Krista no later than the November meeting. John went over some of the goals and plans for the upcoming year. We would like to get more involved in community service and also get more people involved in the club. We discussed possibly playing broomball or going ice skating. Our big fundraiser is our food booth at the ACES Open House in March. Other events for the upcoming year may include a speaker for the International 4-H Youth Exchange, 4-H day on November 10, Body Walk, and the Regional and National gatherings for Collegiate 4-H. Suggestions are always welcome. We also plan on working with Dream Catchers, a young local 4-H group. Jennifer Caldwell, Krista Fleming, Jeff Wilson, and John Garlisch volunteered for the Dream Catcher's committee to help plan upcoming events. We also plan on helping the Fithian 4-H club. Josh St. Peters will be the coordinator for the Fithan club events. The Fithian club is more focused on livestock, so please contact Josh if you have any livestock experience. Anyone with general project experience or anyone that likes helping kids can help out with the Dream Catchers or the Fithian 4-H Club. The officers presented their goals for the upcoming year. ACES Council Rep Josh St. Peters announced that the next ACES Council Meeting will be Sept 10 at 8 p.m. in 428 Mumford. Anyone with an interest in the College of ACES is invited to attend. Social Chair Amy Taylor is helping plan a Fall Diversity event for the College of ACES. It is tentatively scheduled for November 30 at the Clarion Hotel and will be a fun festival. Fundraising Chair Jeff Wilson brought up the idea of a fall fundraiser to help us have more money to donate to our Christmas community service project, possibly Adopt a Family. Historian Kent Borecky hopes to have the new officers and meeting minutes up on the website soon. The address for the webpage is http://w3.aces.uiuc.edu/Clubs/C4H/. Advisor Patty McGlaughlin told us about 4-H day on Nov. 10, the Edge Conference on Nov. 17 in Champaign and ACES Open House. To close the meeting, everyone said a little something about their summer. The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m. in 428 Mumford Hall. |
